Sophia first developed an interest in working with children when she was an intern working for the County of Orange more than fifteen years ago. She felt an instant connection with children and found that she could be effective with this population.
After graduating with a Masters Degree in Social Work from The University of Southern California she continued to pursue her interest with this population, including working as a therapist in a day treatment facility with severely emotionally disturbed children and those diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. As a result, she developed expertise working with children with difficult/ challenging behaviors and with those suffering from various types of trauma, including physical abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect issues.
From there, she worked with children and teens who were court dependents and living in group homes or foster care. After spending much time with this population she began to see what some of these children had in common. She noticed that the children who made the most progress were also the ones who were adopted or placed in permament home situations. This realization is what led her to a passion / specialty in the field of adoption. Sophia has devoted the past twelve years of her career to working specifically in this field.
Currently, Sophia continues to work in the field of adoption providing individual, family, and group therapy to children and their families. Additionally, Sophia has developed expertise in working with children and families who have lost a loved one, or who are dealing with a loved one who is ill.
Sophia currently provides psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and their families, working both in a county contract specialty clinic and in her own private practice.
When not working, Sophia enjoys going to the beach or taking camping trips with her husband, two children, and dog.
